About the Role:

This Director-level role sits within the FRPPE – Risk Technology team. As a Java/Database Developer, you will design and develop innovative, high-performance software solutions and drive the modernization and agile agenda. You will collaborate closely with business lines, understand their requirements, and help transform how Morgan Stanley operates technologically.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop reliable, innovative software solutions using modern technology stacks.
  • Take ownership of technology platforms and drive modernization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Contribute to high-performance, distributed systems development.
  • Work on real-time applications involving multithreading and high availability.
  • Develop user interfaces using modern frameworks such as Angular, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React.
  • Collaborate on source control management, testing, debugging, and performance tuning.
  • Engage in continuous learning and apply new technologies and practices to improve systems.

Requirements:

Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience expected for this senior role.

Strong experience developing software in Java (3–7 years).

Good knowledge of Unix/Linux platforms and networking.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Experience with:

  • Spring framework
  • Client-server, distributed, or performance-critical systems
  • Multithreaded real-time applications on Unix/Linux
  • UI development using Angular, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, or jQuery
  • Source Code Management tools like Git, Perforce, CVS
  • Enterprise databases (DB2, Snowflake, MongoDB) and strong SQL skills
  • Version control tools
  • IDEs like IntelliJ or Eclipse
  • Software testing, including unit testing and performance tuning
  • Debugging and issue diagnosis

Desirable:

  • Exposure to investment management and risk management domains
  • Experience with workflow technologies
  • Experience using Power BI and data analysis tools
  • Experience with Python and Jupyter notebooks
